Boulevard Without Borders

Three artists who live near Pico have initiated the Boulevard Without Borders project to document the people and places along this culturally diverse corridor. The project brings teenagers together from Pico's ethnic and religious communities in a collaborative process of photographing their own and other neighborhoods along the boulevard.

Auto Break-In on Orange Grove PDF Print E-mail

Monday, 30 March 2009 08:36
A car parked on S. Orange Grove Ave. between Pickford and Airdrome was broken into on Thursday, March 26, between 10:30 and 11:00pm.  A GPS system was stolen.  The theft was reported to the police.

At the March 21 Picfair Village General Membership Meeting, Senior Lead Officer Ruben Gonzales reported (on behalf of our SLO Adam Green) that burglaries are going up due to the economy, especially breaking into cars or taking property from cars whose windows are left open or whose doors are not locked.  Read meeting minutes.

Please be sure to close your windows and lock your cars.

Also, report break-in or thefts to the LAPD, and to the Picfair Village website to keep the community informed.

Crime Alert! Assault on LaCienega PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 March 2009 18:04
On Friday, March 20, 2009 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a member was assaulted on the 1000 block of La Cienega between Olympic and Whitworth near Temple Beth-Am.  He was walking home after using the Metro #28 busline. The member heard 2 young men in jeans and hooded shirts behind him as he walked home, turned to see them, but they were several feet behind and posed no apparent threat.  Next thing the member knew, a couple was telling him to "remain calm", an ambulance was on the way. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai for treatment. Police there took photographs of his injuries....a deep laceration to the left side of his skull from being struck, and a chin laceration from the fall.  Unfortunately, the member cannot not even give their ethnicity.

The police believe this to be a malicious, unprovoked attack.  The member's wallet, keys, cell-phone etc were not taken.

Crime Alert! Drive-by Shooting PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 March 2009 18:04

One of two men targeted in a drive-by shooting was wounded across from the Headmaster Barber, 5610 W. Pico Blvd., (between Curson & Stanley) today.  LAPD Officer Sam Park said the shooting was reported at 11:57 a.m. and is being investigated by detectives assigned to the Wilshire Station.

Samson Odede, co-owner of the barber shop said, "There were two guys walking on the street when this carpulled up and opened fire on them.  One guy was hit and the other guy took off running down the street. The wounded man then ran into our shop to hide in case the shooters drove back.  It shook us up, but the man was just trying to stay alive; so he ran in here for safety.  Somebody, I don't know who, took him to the hospital. I don't know how he is. I hope he's OK''.  Adede said the wounded man was a black man who appeared to be in his 30s.

Another local business owner, who prefers to remain nameless, described the two black men in their mid 20's, running eastbound on Pico Blvd. were ultimately shot at by a brown mid-sized car (circa 80's model). One man was struck in the back and was presumably transported to a nearby hospital by a citizen.  Each man was between 5'10 - 6' and had husky builds.

Brian Humphrey of the LA Fire Department said the victim was gone when paramedics arrived.

More to come as this story unfolds.

Burglary on Stanley PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Friday, 27 February 2009 09:54

At approximately 4:36 pm, February 24, 2009, our home at 1113 South Stanley Avenue was burglarized.   It appears they climbed over the back wall and entered through a back door.

They pepper sprayed our dogs and once in the main part of the house, destroyed the burglar alarm panel and horn (Did not prevent alarm from being reported to the central station).   They headed directly upstairs and removed a safe and also destroyed an antique cabinet to remove a small safe that was bolted inside it.   Unfortunately, the small safe contained some priceless jewelry and family heirlooms.
